Advisor and external relations manager
Born in Frigniou, a small village in the commune of Bassila in Benin, Abdou Rahim Lema is now a doctoral candidate and Vanier Scholar at the University of Montreal after earning a bachelor's degree in Economics and International Relations from Ipek University and Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey, and a master’s degree in China Studies from Yenching Academy at Peking University. But he had to overcome major obstacles before getting at this stage today. In fact, he grew up in a context where educational opportunities were almost non-existent. While he was born into a very large family, he was only the second child to graduate from high school and the only one to pursue a university education. In addition, he faced the necessity of working part-time since high school to finance his education. All of these unforgettable trials, overcame only through persistence and perseverance against all odds, had a profound influence on him and made him realize the importance of education and the need to make it more equitable and accessible to everyone. For this reason, he founded "Educ4All" to make quality education equitable by supporting children from disadvantaged families in Bassila. For him, this initiative is a way to not only give back to the community that has seen him grow and thrive despite countless challenges but also inspire children to take their education very seriously.
